Life Is Movement, Cinema Is Death – Polish Biological Films from WFO (2024)
Film program and introduction, New Horizons International Film Festival, Wrocław, Poland
→ Festival page
A curated program presenting archival “biological films” produced by the Educational Film Studio (WFO) in Łódź between the 1950s and 1970s.
The selection explored the aesthetic and philosophical paradox of cinema as both an instrument of life’s observation and death’s recording — a medium suspended between science, art, and metaphysics.
The accompanying lecture and essay framed these works within the posthumanist discourse of attention, care, and the visual ethics of observing nonhuman life.
